PLAY THERAPY
Play is a natural part of childhood and an important piece in child development. Children like to play for many reasons, whether it’s to help them express themselves, to learn how to interact with other kids, or to just have fun. Therapists use play therapy to communicate with children, to help them express what is troubling them when they can’t explain it with words. Using play, children will begin to understand their emotions, improve their ability to regulate emotions, learn more helpful behaviors, refine their problem-solving skills, develop better communication skills, and enhance their social skills to build positive peer and family relationships.
WHO BENEFITS FROM PLAY?
Play therapy is a proven effective therapeutic approach for children who show symptoms of:
-
Attention Disorders, with or without hyperactivity
-
Anxiety, Stress, or Phobia
-
Defiance-type Behaviors
-
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder / History of Trauma

Play therapy is effective because it is developmentally age appropriate, allows for mastery of skills, provides an opportunity for children to be creative while expressing themselves, and because children LOVE to play! The universality of play allows play therapists to adapt their techniques to the specific needs of each child so they can overcome their challenges.

Play therapy can also help children who:
-
Have trouble making friends
-
Experience the loss of a loved one
-
Struggle regulating & coping with emotions
-
Have problems sleeping or nightmares
-
Show an aversion to play
-
Lack confidence or have low self-esteem

ADOLESCENT THERAPY
Being an adolescent is hard. For many, navigating the teenage years can be difficult. They experience physical changes, social pressures to fit in, increased academic demands, the need to establish more independence, and significant emotional changes. New Perspectives KC provides a confidential, safe space for teens to work through their challenges, receive emotional support, and try out new solutions to old problems.
