PLAY THERAPY
Play is a natural part of childhood and an essential component of healthy development. Children engage in play for many reasons— to express themselves, connect with others, learn new skills, or simply to have fun. In play therapy, therapists use play as a developmentally appropriate way to communicate with children and help them express what may be difficult to explain with words. Through play, children can begin to better understand their emotions, improve emotional regulation, develop more helpful behaviors, strengthen problem-solving and communication skills, and enhance social skills to build healthier peer and family relationships.
WHO BENEFITS FROM PLAY?
Play therapy is a proven, effective therapeutic approach for children experiencing:
-
Attention Disorders, with or without hyperactivity
-
Anxiety, Stress, or Phobia
-
Defiance-type Behaviors
-
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder / History of Trauma

Play therapy works because it is developmentally appropriate, allows children to master new skills, provides opportunities for creative self-expression, and, most importantly, children naturally LOVE to play! The universal nature of play enables therapists to adapt techniques to meet each child’s unique needs, helping them overcome challenges and grow in healthy ways.

Play therapy can also benefit children who:
-
Have difficulty making friends
-
Are coping with the loss of a loved one
-
Struggle to regulate or cope with emotions
-
Have trouble sleeping or experience nightmares
-
Show an aversion to play
-
Lack confidence or have low self-esteem

ADOLESCENT THERAPY
Being a teenager can be overwhelming. Teens face physical changes, social pressures, academic demands, and the need for independence—all while managing strong emotions. Many teens struggle with self-doubt, peer conflict, or uncertainty about their future, which can make everyday challenges feel even more stressful. It’s normal to feel misunderstood, frustrated, or unsure how to cope during this time of rapid growth and change.

At New Perspectives KC, we provide a safe, confidential, and supportive space where teens can explore their thoughts and feelings. Our goal is to help them build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and strengthen emotional resilience. Through guidance and practical tools, teens can improve communication, problem-solving, and self-understanding, helping them navigate challenges, build stronger relationships, and grow into their best selves.
